For a lot of people travel insurance is simply seen as one of several extras that the travel agent will try to persuade us to add to our holiday package to assist in boosting his profits and make our holiday even more expensive than it already is. Third, travel insurance will provide protection for your possessions both while you are traveling and abroad so that you will be compensated in the event of loss or damage.
If you have spent any time traveling then you will probably have suffered the loss of your luggage at some stage and will know just how annoying and costly it is. I will never forget stopping for lunch on my way to the airport on one particular holiday and carefully locking my bag out of sight in the trunk of my hire car. When I returned to the car about half an hour later I discovered that someone had forced the passenger door lock and folded the back seat down to get into the boot and steal my case.
I will also not soon forget waiting at a traffic light one hot and sunny day when a motorbike pulled up alongside the car and a young man reached in through the open passenger side window to snatch my mother's purse which was lying on the floor by her feet.
Traveling overseas is expensive enough but traveling without suitable insurance cover can lead to bills which you simply do not have the money to pay. So, whenever you are making plans for a trip remember to add international travel medical insurance to your vacation list.
